In the Curripaco language, YAAWI IIPANA REDD+ translates to “The House of the Jaguar.” This is the name given by the indigenous reserves Morichal Viejo, Santa Rosa, Cerro Cocuy, Santa Cruz, Caño Danta, and others to this important conservation project located in El Retorno, Guaviare.
YAAWI IIPANA REDD+ aims to minimize the impact generated by deforestation and forest degradation through a comprehensive vision of territorial development, following the guidelines set by the community. These guidelines include initiatives focused on the reforestation of degraded ecosystems and social monitoring with forest custodians, strengthening the agricultural-productive and self-sufficiency sector through the improvement of conucos, the construction of educational institutions, health posts, and digital kiosks; supporting students to access higher education, improving housing and their means of transportation, among others.
